At Drayton Community Infant school we believe that all children are entitled to an education that offers quality, breadth of experience, standard of excellence and a sense of community. Every teacher is vigilant in monitoring the progress of their class and we track the achievement of every child on a regular basis making sure all children are reaching their full potential. We have a duty of care to ensure that no group of children are disadvantaged due to gender, ethnic origin or family income or background.
What is Pupil Premium?
Pupil Premium is a government initiative introduced to narrow the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their more economically advantaged peers. This additional funding is allocated to schools to work with pupils who have been registered for free school meals within the past six years, those children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months, and children of service personnel.
Where does the money come from?
The money schools are given for Pupil Premium is based on the number of children who are currently known to be eligible for free school meals, whose parents are serving in the Armed forces and children who have been in care with the local authority for over six months.
“It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated to schools is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.” (Source – DfE website)
At Drayton Community Infant school, the Pupil Premium allocation is used to target support for these vulnerable groups with continuous monitoring of their progress through Pupil Asset so we can facilitate narrowing the gap.
